Music has been such a big part of my life. I have spent many hours listening, studying, playing, and writing it. Music has shaped the way I perceive life. I love to talk about music and the way it influences what we see, hear and even speak. Music is an art and the arts are not appreciated nearly enough anymore.
When someone says, “Hey I like music!” We usually always say what type? Then the next motive is whether or not we agree with their statement. In reality we should approach all music the same way we approach what we like and listen to, we should not judge the other person’s taste. Now with that we do not have to like it, but we should support what they like and at least give it a try. Music is something to listen to with an open mind, and you should always be willing to listen to new music.
The study of music includes how a song is constructed, whether it has an odd meter, or what key it is in, if the song has a key change, or it is just a regular common time song. Breaking a song down and listening to the different layers takes hours of time to fully study that song, but it is so satisfying once you rally that song and learn what makes it so unique. Whether the song has basic chords or these tough ones to lock in with the song like for example an Emaj9/13 chord.
Over the years that music has really been in my life I have gotten the incredible opportunity to play some great music. I have personally been able to perform concert pieces, marching shows, and here soon even gig shows and live music. It has been such a therapeutic way to relax and take time into a great hobby! One thing I always recommend if you decide to play music or want to learn an instrument is to learn to read it. Especially if you pick up a guitar or drums and you just learn rhythms, I always recommend learning you notes on the paper.
Now I am no John Williams, but I have written a few pieces of music. Writing music can be difficult and a rough experience, especially if you go into a bit of a block, or what is well known as a writer’s block. With that once the music really comes to mind and you piece it together, there just is not a better feeling. It feels like all your emotion is left in the music when you finally get that piece done.
